The books follows two characters, Lira, a siren princess who ‘collects’ the hearts of Princes and Elian, a Prince and a siren killer. When their paths cross due to Lira’s curse into humanity the two characters work together to destroy sirenkind for good, but can Elian trust her? Does he know who she really is?

*spoiler*
The book started off great, I enjoyed reading about Lira’s life growing up with the ruthless Sea Queen, I mean she rips out the hearts of princes, badass, violent! We love it. And Elian? A Pirate Prince who doesn’t want to be king, all he wants is to set sail with his crew and kill! (His moments with the crew were the only bits I enjoyed)
The book was described as a dark romantic story, so I was expecting action and more action. Right? No.
Ok, he rescues the poor drowning girl there’s some banter, a little hate and then suddenly its all lovey dovey? It needed more world building, a time to get to know these characters, get attached to them. Sometimes I felt like it went from 0-100 in a single chapter! It was confusing! And once Elian found out who she really was there was some much potential for a revenge scene! A fight! She’s your enemy! She lied!
There was so much potential for this Little Mermaid retelling. I’m just disappointed..
