This book has been on my tbr list for a long while so when I finally got the chance to pick it up, sit back and read I was kind of disappointed.

First of all the book is set in a world where sirens are real. Lira our main character is the princess of the sirens and every year on her birthday she must rip the heart out of a mortal prince. This year however, she does something which causes the events of the book to unfold.

I loved each and every character but what I felt was lacking was any connection to them. I didn’t really care about them enough. I wish the author could have explored each of the characters in more debt.

As well as the characters I felt robbed from world building. The author created this extremely interesting world of different kingdoms which I wish could have been explained slightly more. We were more told instead of shown.

However, the action scenes especially at the end were really fast paced and enjoyable. I loved the concept of the story and the characters etc. But I was disappointed by the lack of connection I felt towards the book.
