I have alot of feelings about this book. Let me start by saying The Little Mermaid is my all time favourite fairytale (granted I'm thinking more Disney than Anderson) and I was just dying to get a hold of this. I have to say the writing style threw me at first, I'm not a big fan of first person, but I got used to it as the story progressed. The characters, oh man THE CHARACTERS were brilliant. I loved Lira's fiery nature and the fact that she stayed true to herself throughout the book. Definitely a new favourite female character. The world was so vast and each kingdom had a different story to tell. I also love the fact that there was no instalove, love triangle, damsel in distress or any other trope that is usually found in YA. The only reason I didn't rate this higher is due to the difficulty I had trying to get into the story first and trying to get used to a writing style I normally hate.
