Not a rival for The Millenium Trilogy

It leaves me a bit pessimistic when something is compared to another popular work, and my pessimism proved correct. This is not a bad book by any stretch, but by comparing it to the Millenium books which were so popular it sets the bar a bit too high and it never quite reaches it. It makes a good effort, lengthwise, but that is also a downside as it felt a chore after a while like scenes had been stretched out or padded out to make the book longer, i'm sure it could have been trimmed by at least 100 pages to no ill effect.
The opening sets the intrigue, but then doesn't do much with it after that, the characters felt a little flat for me too. I hadn't read the previous book so don't know if i was missing too much into their back stories, but it did feel like they were giving knowing glances to each other that if you hadn't read the previous book you just didn't get. So overall it was ok, but didn't make me want to reach for another by this author. Jo Nesbo it aint.
