Going into this book I was a bit apprehensive that because I hadn't read the previous book I wouldn't be able to follow the plot. There were a few parts I had to reread to make sure I got my head around them but overall I don't think it matters if you've read the previous one. There were definitely parts of this book in which I was so gripped, I didn't want to put it down! But there were also parts where I felt I was battling through the chapter. I did get quite confused between certain characters, especially some from the book before this one but overall I did grasp the plot. Despite a few sudden twists and shocks a lot of the book was quite rambling and there was no thrilling conclusion as is normal in this style. I did enjoy the book but I probably wouldn't reach for this author again and I wouldn't be fussed whether there was a sequel or not.
