I borrowed this book from my local library after being drawn to the summer-esque cover and after reading the blurb, I couldn’t resist picking it up.
Toxic is a narrative told in three perspectives, all of which discuss events that have occurred before, during and after a lad’s holiday. Hope goes on holiday with a group of her male friends and her ex boyfriend in which they spend much of the holiday enjoying themselves and getting drunk. It is during this holiday that certain events take place which leads to the characters questioning their friendships with each other. However, this drama also follows them back home and begins to create cracks within their friendship group. Cloke’s novel discusses important themes such as friendships, sexual orientation, rape and others. It is powerful read which will remain in your thoughts even when you have finished it. I really enjoyed this book so so much and loved the character of Hope. I recommend this book to everyone as it is a great read.
