A very unusual book in both its layout and its topic. It appears at first reading to be about a man with a secret but then it may be about a an individual in transition. If the latter it is a well timed piece of writing about a complex topic in terms of the need to shelter oneself from the view and opinions of others. This is more so the case with this story as it is set in the late 1940's and focuses on Abe's constant fears and need to move on rather than get close to other people.
