Although this is the sort of labyrinthine and complexly plotted story which would usually attract me, my first impression is that it feels just too dark as a sunny summer read so I think I'll pass this time. If the reviews make me feel I've missed a real treat then maybe I'll buy myself a copy to read during the long winter nights!
