I always found books by this author as a slow burn that gathers momentum and finish with a bang. This is no exception. Ellen is travelling back to London by train and a young woman asks her to hold her baby whilst she makes a phone call. Ellen agress and looks up to see the young woman has left the train and mouths sorry to her. She finds a note telling her to protect the baby, don't trust the Police and don't trust anyone. Some else on the train seems very interested in the baby, so she makes a diversion at Marlyebone statione and heads for the Police Station. Whilst on her way there, she is abducted with the baby by someone she thinks is the baby's father, but the way he is acting, she is not going to hand over the baby easily. She escapes but is drawn into a strange world where she doesn't know who to trust.

I don't want to give spoilers, but this is well worth reading.
