I'll start with a positive saying the cover sleeve design of the hardback is perfect to draw buyers in for a summer holiday read. The contents of the book I found harder to get into as the chapters between the current day character of Lottie Archer and past life of Nina Lawrence halted the flow for me.

The novel takes place in Rome following newlywed Lottie's discovery of Nina's life and tragic end in the 1970s whilst working as an archivist. A few surprises and secrets are unearthed about Nina's life and it all takes place in the fabulous setting of garden restoration, city life and Italy's past and present. Nina's story was more intriguing than Lottie's and not enough of the book was spent looking at her which I would have preferred.

There is enough in the book for it to be of interest to fans of Elizabeth Buchan and new readers but may not be at the pace that holds everyone's attention.
