Lottie is a newlywed living in Rome. She has just started her new job as an archivist. She discovers an old painting suspected to be by one of the greats. It came with the belongings of an English woman, Nina, as well as a beautiful notebook containing her diary. Nina was horrifically murdered in the 70s and no family ever came to claim her. The case was left unsolved and seemingly didn't draw much attention from the authorities.
Lottie feels a duty to discover more about this woman and how she met her grizzly end. Also, why there wasn't any effort put into finding her killer. Is it part of a cover up? How much power does the Vatican hold? How far will it go to keep its reputation in tact?

This is a beautiful book with lots of wonderful imagery. It gives a real insight into living in Rome and shows the cultural differences between Italy and the UK.
Lottie is a strong female character that has great determination and refuses to back down. Even when pressured by certain male figures in her life.

Two Women Living in Rome is great escapism it really transports you to Italy and the parts from Nina's journal takes you back in time to an age of uncertainty and espionage.
A great mystery!
