It was ok
I found this an alright read; parts of it were interesting but others dragged. I really struggled to actually relate or connect with both Lottie and Nina, so that’s why I found I wasn’t gripped.
The story threw in a lot of things; romance, religion, politics, espionage, art, history, and more that’s probably slipped my mind. I felt there was a lot going on without much going on if that makes sense? I got to the end and thought back over the content and had difficulty seeing how that took up so many pages.
Saying that, it was fairly entertaining and I definitely enjoyed learning about a person from the past, Nina, both through her own story and also through that discovered by Lottie in the “present”. I think I would have preferred more time spent with Nina rather than Lottie.
Overall, not really my cup of tea but also not a bad book. It wouldn’t make me rule out trying the author again either.
