I had been eagerly awaiting this book and the thought of reading about art, Italy and a complicated love story embroiled in the political aftermath of post war Italy was calling out to me. Unfortunately, however, I found the book really difficult to get stuck into. I ploughed on for many chapters but was not getting hooked by the story or the characters. I kept waiting for the magical moment when it would all click and pick up a pace, but didn't get to a point when I could honestly say that it was an unputdownable read!! For these reasons I couldn't recommend the book. I believe that to make a worthwhile and enjoyable read there has to be something which holds your attention pretty much from the start and unfortunately Two women in Rome didn't do it for me. Thanks goes to Reader's first and Corvus publishers for the advanced copy of the book.
