Oh deary me ! I had such high hopes for this story but alas I was very disappointed. The story is indeed set in Rome, one of my favourite places in the world, but apart from the Vatican references it could have been anywhere. Our main character, Lottie, is an archivist and “the other woman “ is Nina. The author builds up the character Tom, Lottie’s husband. I thought he was going to have much more of an impact on the story but he doesn’t. His character is so intriguing but I was so disappointed that he didn’t really reach my expectations.
The story does go between the 1970s and modern day but it’s not really that interesting.
Nina is in Rome working undercover and the story does go into politics which I found uninteresting and boring. She has a forbidden love affair and there are consequences from this relationship for all involved.
I did like the cover of the book with a picture of the Colosseum on it.
