Ultima was my first erotic thriller and probably the last because I had the impression it was better quality than most, and it was still not my thing. The graphic sex scenes and the violence did not add up to my idea of escapism.
It was the authoritative and enjoyable art fraud plot line that kept me reading, and keen to see how events would unfold. The writing flowed easily and I smiled at some of the humorous asides but I found the designer label references became a little monotonous.
I didn't find the strong anti-heroine empowering as her values were so different to mine, and the world of the super rich she was so desperate to become part of seemed a sad place full of people I really wouldn't want to spend time with.
