Gemma Reeves starts her readers' visit to Victoria Park with the story of Mona and Wolfie who have been married for around sixty five years. Sadly Mona now has dementia and Wolfie is caring for her as well as continuing to smoke salmon in his shed having retired from the kosher deli he set up just as long ago and is now run by his neighbour, Luca. In spite of his best efforts Mona occasionally goes out on her own and invariably imagines it's many, many years ago. This is a theme that will be familiar to a lot of readers unfortunately. The author writes very sensitively about this tricky topic and I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of the residents around Victoria Park.
