Victoria Park is a beautifully crafted book about a community in London set over 12 months. Each chapter is written from the perspective of a different person who lives by Victoria Park. As such there is crossover and characters are seen through others eyes and in different lights as the story unfolds.

The writing is beautiful, poetic and luxurious. Each page (especially descriptions of food) creates an image and made me feel as though I was there, with the character in their chapter. Although each chapter is beautifully written, you can feel the different voice of each person coming through- the warmth of Wolfie, the cheekiness of Daniel, the sourness of Alice and so many more. I really liked that each character had their own voice.

I liked the concept, but I couldn’t help feeling like each story had its own path that one chapter was not enough to explore. I would have very happily read 12 books of this beautiful writing and explored each character in depth. I did not feel one chapter did them all justice.

Would have given the book a five star, but I found some of the chapters were unnecessarily sexual in nature.

I recommend this book for anyone who likes strong characters, beautiful writing and layered stories.
