This was so beautifully written. I loved the layout, in that each chapter brings a new month and with it, a new character’s perspective and storyline. Each character plays a role in at least one other character’s life - some major and some minor. This was presented well, as it also meant that it was revealed what happened to each character in storylines that weren’t necessarily about them.
The book is written beautifully and there is a lyrical quality to the writing. There’s a range of societal issues tackled, including issues with identity, alienation, loneliness, family breakdown, IVF, crime and many more. As there is twelve characters it was sometimes difficult to keep track of who was who and I often ended up flicking back to try and figure out who someone was and how they were connected to the community. It also felt like the reader is only given a very brief glimpse into each character’s life and naturally I wanted to learn more about some characters whilst others I wasn’t as invested in. Overall, a beautiful read.
