I usually enjoy this genre of novel but this book did not live up to my expectations. The first look chapter focused on Wolfie and Mona, an elderly couple who had lived near Victoria Park for over fifty years. Sadly, Mona is suffering from dementia and Wolfie is worried she may have to go into a home. The following chapters each introduce new characters and give a glimpse of their lives. They raise various issues such as theft, aging, IVF, and infidelity. A boy is a victim of an acid attack in the park and is in hospital for months. Although the book blurb mentions community there are only tenuous links between most of the characters. For example Veronica cleans for Wolfie and Mona and Daniel is taught by Bette. I found I couldn't feel any real interest in the characters as the story moved on from on to another giving only a glimpse of their lives.
