I really enjoyed this book for so many reasons.
It is mainly set in Rhodes where the author has lived and manages to describe perfectly for the reader.
The story of Pandora Cohen, a 16 year old Jewess, who managed to escape when the rest of her family were transported from Rhodes to Auschwitz in 1943 is told via her diaries which are being read by her granddaughters. These are interspersed with current day issues which face the granddaughters about infertility, deprivation caused by the Greek economy, the unresolved issue about confiscated Jewish property.
This book had many similarities with Patricia Wilson's first book Island of Secrets which was set on Crete - German occupation, family feud with an estranged granddaughter living in London, female heroism. However, each book is quite distinctive and both are highly enjoyable.
