Rachel Burge grabbed my attention on the first page. And kept it. Her protagonist, Ivy, tells her own story and seems remarkably self-assured and knowing for just 17 years old. Similarly, the cover is lively but dark, mysteriously falling between the historical and horror genres. Certainly, such a very promising opening demands 'Waking the Witch' finds its place on my book shelf.
