I whizzed through this first impression, something about the writing style and the author's tone made it very readable and I was trying to get to the next page at the end, always a good sign.

The scene setting is very good, as is the description of the characters that is blended into the story so that I could really picture myself in the rooms with them.

There is already a hint of the supernatural, and whilst not perhaps the most gripping opening pages, I would have quite happily continued reading to find out more.
