Ivy has been through the foster care system for all her life after being abandoned as a baby in a motorway service station.
Now, at seventeen, she is well on her way to GCSEs and a place at university to study entomology, while working at a butterfly centre.
She has been searching for her birth mother and finally thinks she might know where her mother is, or was staying when she abandoned Ivy.
After a very strange phone call from someone who might be her mother telling her it is not safe for her to approach, Ivy is horrified to be attacked by a man, who had been intermittently behaving oddly. After defending herself, the man seems stunned and confused and can only remember Ivy's defensive actions which he now, apparently, thinks were her attacking him.
Her boss immediately takes the other man's side and sacks her.
It seems that Ivy will now have time to search further......
