Overall this book was a good read. It flowed well and the first person writing style was engaging. I think the book would appeal to a youger adult audience mostly, but it was still enjoyable enough to keep reading and finish the book.
It's very descriptive and paints the landscapes and settings well, the characters are also described well and so a clear image of them is formed.
The pace of the book felt a bit slow at points but once Ivy and Tom reach the island it picks up a bit. It gets a bit dark and again the descriptive nature of the book really helped with the dark fantasy parts of the story making them as imaginable and clear as the rest had been.

I wasn't sure about the ending, it felt a bit abrupt to be honest. I don't know if there are any plans for a sequel but I feel there is a good set up for one. There is a bit of a battle sequence at the end which again was written very well.
