Waking the Witch by Rachel Burge was a brilliant story! It follows a girl called Ivy who has grown up in foster care. Ivy has always been determined to find her real mum but when she finally makes contact things take a very interesting turn.
I really enjoyed the setting of the book. The dark and gloomy Island somehow managed to feel really cosy while being creepy and mysterious at the same time. The characters are all really well written. I particularly loved Tom and all his banter with Ivy and it was great watching their friendship change as their relationship grew and they came to depend on each other more. The magic was beautifully done and I thought it was great that the legend of Merlin was so important to the story as I wasn't expecting that.
Overall, I thought this was a fantastic book that I would definitely recommend. I just wish it had been a bit longer.
