This book blew me away! It was a fast paced fantasy book which followed our main character Ivy and her journey to meet her mother and reconnect with her. Along the way, the readers are exposed to lots of creepy occurances. I loved how this book could be read with two points of views, agreeing with her mother or being on Tom's side and thinking that they are going loopy.
I loved the island setting and the theme of death that was carried throughout the book. Rachel Burge really tackles a lot of sexist and misogynistic views making this book almost a feminist novel!!
If you are looking for a quick fantasy standalone then this is for you!
However I did find that at some points the story lacked depth and character/world building. Because it is only 280 pages long, it's difficult to have a developed story in that book length.
I did really enjoy the read and would recommend it to anyone that needs a pick me up and I'm sure it would help one to get out of a reading slump as the writing style was simplistic but very strong!
