2.5 stars: I loved that this one started with a mysterious, half-finished note from a missing mother and lots of secrets to uncover. It is beautifully written and well-researched. Ivy, the main character, works at a butterfly zoo and I found the sprinkling of information about the creatures fascinating. From the first page the atmosphere is eerie and strange happenings begin to occur. Tom is a brilliant friend to Ivy, supportive and patient as she deals with trying to find her mother.

Whilst I loved the first half of this book, unfortunately I was really disappointed by the second half. There were some creepy moments, but these weren’t sustained and I began to feel bored as I read on. The reveals could have been a lot more developed, with further backstory. It would almost benefit from an included prequel. Such a shame, as the first half was brilliant.
