Sadly Unsatisfying

Thanks so much to a dear friend for buddy reading this one with me, without someone to share this with I fear it would have been a dnf. I was initially drawn to the cover (I love cormorants), and the premise sounded interesting, so I gave it a try... I'm sad to say I'm not sure what I was expecting, but whatever it was, this wasn't it.

After a fairly strong start it soon ramps up with the introduction of the mythology and mysterious unexplained happenings, and I really enjoyed where it was going, but then it somehow lost its way. The second half felt somewhat lacking. The depth disappeared. The characters stopped evolving and descended into teen-tropes, the romance was entirely unnecessary, and the action felt aimless.

I'm so sorry to say that with an unsatisfying ending, the second half was all together too long and although the end definitely leaves the door open for a sequel, I’m not interested enough to pick it up.

Thanks so much to the publisher for sending me a copy of in exchange for an honest review, all opinions are my own, I'm just sorry I didn't like it more.
