This isn’t my usual read, I’m definitely older than the typical YA reader although I do enjoy an occasional YA read but magic and mythology are not my usual thing however I like to try something different occasionally and I think this managed to do a credible job of holding my interest. Ivy is a really strong character, I love how her background has made her determined to prove herself in spite of a tricky start and her independence is admirable although it was also good to see her time on the island gave her more balance. I enjoyed the elements of Arthurian legend however it was a lot more focused on Merlin and that was in terms of him being a character in this rather than in relation to the actual legend which I would have liked more of. Tom is a good friend but a bit weak as a character, it does feel a little as though the strongest traits went to Ivy! The story unfolded well, it was creepy and more than a bit sinister but the ending was a little vague for me, I couldn’t tell whether it was leading up to a sequel in which case it left it open well.
