I loved this book and if I didn't have children I'd have read it in one sitting. Id not heard of the title before and was drawn in by both the title and cover art and was really surprised by how quickly I got pulled into the fantasy. It's not the type of book I'd usually choose to read so it's certainly made me inspired to look into alternative genres but also look up the authors other books.
I'm hoping that this will be a series and book 2 will be on the way because I'm desperate to know what happens on the other side of the portal. I've been left with lots of questions which I'd usually be disappointed about but actually I think it adds to the charm and leaves the imagination to give alternative endings (at least until *fingers crossed* book 2 appears).
I enjoyed having a reduced number of characters meant real depth was given to them and I didn't find the book predictable which is great because I feel like that can so easily happen.
Really really surprised with how much I enjoyed this and maybe in this case I'm glad I judged a book by its cover!
