i am not really a fan of YA but i like to give it ago every now and then. i found the first part of this book really good. you learn about ivy and how her mum left her as a baby at some motorway services and she has spent her life in care. she works at a butterfly house with tom. toms uncle actually runs the place. ivy makes contact with her mum at the same time she loses her job. tom quits with her. they both go to wales to find her mum and all sorts of weird and magical things happen. witches and creepy shadows dominate the end of the book. her mum gets captures by the demons and you never actually find out if she lives or dies. that bit is quite disappointing, its the like the ending is left open for a second part. i wouldn't go out of my way to read a part two if there was one. the story would be great for a teenager but for an adult and found it too childish. i am glad i read it though and gave it a go!
