A stark novel about the troubled lives of those who had a loved one murdered by somebody close. Then the return from prison of the murderer.
There are some good characters, they all have terrible names: Star, Duchess, Vincent and Walk. I found Walk confusing as its an action, not a name.
The has been burnt out Sherriff, the insightful and confrontational daughter, the drunken depressed mother. They build a good beginning, marking out how their lives have been tarnished by that murderous toerag Vincent.
Alas its written in American English, which doesnt quite slide into the background comfortably but tended to irk me, like the name Walk.
The extract did ota job well, builds the story, some suspense the last page leaving you with the anticipation of the return of Vincent. A good start, but not a book Im willing to commit time for right now.
