There was such an incredible buzz about this book and I just had to get a copy and read it for myself. I adored the main character of Duchess and could really visualise her as I was reading. My heart broke for her mother, Star.

It took me a little while to get in to it as the narration is very American in style (can't believe the writer is English) but I was hooked pretty quickly. I found myself rooting for the main characters, Chief Walker and Duchess, who are both deeply flawed. The writing is beautiful, if, as I said, slightly unusual at first and although the characters go through such enormous trials and tribulations you are rooting for them throughout. Although described in various places as a 'crime novel' We Begin at the End is so much more than that. It is original and distinctive.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and can understand all the hype around it.
