We also follow police chief Walker, King’s childhood best friend who has spent the best part of his life keeping an eye out on the Radleys.
The plot unfolds slowly, almost painfully, making it completely different to other thrillers I would normally read. Instead creating a richly atmospheric narrative, driven by its characters. This is an achingly beautiful and heartbreaking book. I think if you liked Jon McGregor’s ‘Reservoir 13’ you’ll really like this too.
