So I’ll begin by saying I’ve never read anything by this author before so I had absolutely no idea what to expect when reading this book, especially when the cover didn’t really excite or entice me.
To say I was surprised would be an understatement! This was such a beautifully written book about good and evil and how there is a morally grey area in between. There was a certain poetic nature to the writing that was incredibly pleasing to read and so very different to anything I’d read before. The characters all came to life in a way that I’ll remember for a long time, especially Duchess who was such a strong young girl who’s experienced too much too young and is trying her best to help her struggling mother and younger brother.
The book sent me on a thrilling adventure of self discovery that completely enraptured me. There were parts that seemed a little too slow and even though, I often prefer books that are much faster paced, overall, I felt that the pace added to the novel rather than took away from it!
