Not having read anything by this author before, I was very happily surprised by this book. The book is a slow burn leading to an explosive finish. About a girl and her brother and what happens leading up to, and following, their mother’s murder. Their life is less than average, as are the characters involved with them. Leading to a culmination of mind blowing proportions.
The author has made the characters solid, with very human flaws. The writing is not flowery, but is imaginative and draws out the tale at a good pace. You laugh, cry and hold your breath at tense moments as the story progresses.
