What is Black and White? is a fun story that the children loved.

The story is very much a book full of questions but the humorous aspect and brilliant illustrations really bring this book to life and give it the feeling of a memory game.

The questions are clever but there is a point in the book when they get a bit tedious and become like a tongue twister, especially when reading it out loud. I think the book goes on a bit longer than it needed to but regardless we really enjoyed reading it.

The illustrations are bold and fun with most pages revolving around a penguin doing something, something which is added and/or different on each page. The children loved guessing what was going to come next for Norman and the silliness of each of the things they'd see when it was revealed. Some of the younger children thought it was going to be just a penguin on each page as they weren't taking notice of the later descriptive questions but the older ones had a great time guessing some unique things that Norman could have been doing. He was always doing something far sillier than their guesses though!

We really enjoyed this book. It's not a book I'd want to read regularly because of the writing style but it was a lot of fun and an entertaining read.
