There's not much to say about What is Black and White? other than if you're a toddler/small child (or a relative of one), or are/were fond of the jokes you get/got on the back of Penguin biscuit bar wrappers, then you may enjoy the format of this compact picture book which is designed to be simple, interactive and humorous in a child-centric way as the penguin at the heart of the book - Norman - is depicted taking on increasingly silly tasks as you turn from one page to the next.

Ideal as a birthday/seasonal gift for younger readers as a bedtime story at home, as well as for reading to the class during school/nursery lessons or for the target audience to read to themselves in whichever library they happen to be using or visiting. Bright colours, such as the orange background on the front cover, also help the black and while illustrations stand out.
