'What is Black and White" by John Kane is an entirely worthwhile read, that urges the young, pre-schooler to explore a deceptively elementary premise in an amusing and educational manner.

The fact that it is not written in a didactic style means that small readers are fully engaged with the penguin protagonist and his increasingly hilarious antics, each one more bizarre and amusing than it's predecessor. This however, does not serve to detract from it's intrinsically serious message, namely that we all have more in common, than we have differences.

Therefore, I would, as a former teacher and lecturer, recommend this worthy book not just to parents and carers, but also to nurseries and primary schools

The generous size, high quality paper and print are to be commended, as is the first rate quality of the vibrant illustrations.
