"What is Black and White?" by John Kane really made me chuckle. This is a delightful book which will appeal to its young target audience, and it will also amuse any grown-ups reading the story.
The cover is nice and bright, shiny and appealing. The illustrations of Norman the penguin are colourful and very amusing - there's plenty to talk about on each page, and it will keep a young child entertained. I loved silly Norman.
My four-year-old grandson loves penguins, and he thought it was great. He's just beginning to recognise a few written words, and the repetitive and clearly-written text will help him as he learns to read. I particularly liked the fact that the joke question is asked on the right-hand page, so you have to turn the page to get to the punchline. This gives plenty of opportunity for the child to try and guess the answer before turning the page.
