What We Didn't Say tells the story of Jack and Laura's marriage mostly through the his diary account of the struggles in their relationship. The diary is shared with their son, who chips in and corrects Laura on some of the bits she missed or left out.
We meet Jack after the couple have been separated for a while and the story is narrated largely from his point of view. What makes this story unique and one to remember, is the way in which it is told - through emails, and from different character's points of views. There isn't normal text in the book, but almost like snapshots of emails back and forth.
The funny thing is, instead of keeping all of his feelings private, Jack emails his entries to Laura, who then proceeds to add notes and other bits.
