I have read 4 of the Why Mummy...... books in the last 2 months.

I have enjoyed them all and recognise many of the situations that Gill Sims describes so hilariously from the times when I had children still living at home.

In the latest book, her children, Peter and Jane, are aged 16 and 18 respectively and sitting their GCSEs and A levels as well as taking driving test. Ellen is contemplating her life after the children have left home with no partner- just dogs and chickens for company. Her job is also insecure and the future uncertain. Her friend, Hannah, is struggling with Edward, her 2 year old so Ellen offers to look after him for a weekend to give her a break, with very amusing consequences, reminiscent of the early days with her own children in Why Mummy Drinks.

I love reading these books but wonder whether this is perhaps the last in this series as all the loose ends seem to have been tied up.

If so, I’m sure Gill Sims will find some other way to amuse her many fans in the future.
