Gill Sims is such a hilarious writer and her style of writing had me in stitches throughout the book. Why Mummy's Sloshed is a frank and funny exploration of identity and motherhood and one which I can imagine would resonate with many women. Even despite the humorous tone of the book, there are still moments of tender emotion that juxtapose the humour and in that way, are really impactful. I felt so much empathy for "Mummy", because I can see how she ended up feeling lost in the world, with much of her identity tied up in being a mother and constantly caring for and helping her children. It is no wonder that with the stresses of everyday life that she turned to drink as a solution - acting as a high functioning alcoholic. I really enjoyed this book and I was surprised by that as this would not usually be the genre that I would enjoy but I cannot recommend enough, especially to fans of Cecelia Ahern.
