Wink is about a young boy at school who is diagnosed then treated for a very rare cancer in his eye.
The story alternates between the present and the events from his diagnosis up to present day- his bad days he calls them. While undergoing daily treatment for his cancer he is still attending school and trying to make the best of the situation. He attracts bullying at school and one of his best friends starts avoiding him. However he also develops some unexpected friendships with a boy at school, a fellow patient and the clinicians performing his treatment.
He learns to play the guitar and starts a rock band as a way of coping with what his happening to him.
Throughout the story it is very emotional, a bit of a teary read but has some funny parts and the comedy strips lighten it up at times.
I really enjoyed this book as though it covered an intense subject the story was written in an easy to ready way.
