I was really pleased to win a copy of Wink to review. It is written from the perspective of Ross - newly diagnosed with a rare and invasive cancer and trying to get used to this “new normal” whilst navigating school, family and friendships.

This is a beautifully written story. I felt that the issues were addressed sensitively and without overly sugar coating things like hair loss, “eye goop” or school bullies. I loved the use of cartoons mixed in with the text, this worked well as it was in keeping with both Ross and his mum and lightened up parts which were slightly heavier reading.

I think this will appeal to a range of readers but is very appropriate for a younger tween age group to either learn what it might be like for a friend or relative going through similar or for those who are going through cancer treatment themselves.
