The book is more or less (read the author's note at the end) true story about something very sad and heavy but deliveres in the most light hearted and readable way possible without becoming overbearing or overly depressing. It also goes to show that there's always hope no matter now difficult or desperate your situation seems to get. The protagonist is a 7th grade student who gets diagnosed with a rare eye cancer and how it changes his life as a he knew it. There's the odd random drawing to make light of what's going on and there's also an accompanying comic strip that offers a humorous, lighter summary of events from time to time. Truly well written and a genuinely beautiful story. It definitelt made me want to get my guitar out and have a jam - which I actually did after finishing the book.
