Ross, a seventh grade student, chronicles his life and the reactions of the people around him during his treatment for a rare and aggressive cancer. It is a story of self discovery as he loses himself in a new found love of music and how this allows him to process and cope with his illness and the trials and tribulations of middle school.

Wink is easy to read and very well written. The characters are carefully considered, each one adding to the narrative. It's clear from the get go that the author has prior experience with the procedures and emotions surrounding a cancer diagnosis. But although this is the underlying thread in this book it certainly isn't the be all and end all of this story. This light hearted, humourous look into the life of young boy proves that love, laughter and music can get you through.
