In this 'first look' With The Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo quickly captivates readers with her tale of a young girl, Emoni, who has had a baby while still in school however this hasn't interfered with her passion for cooking. Emoni little girl, Emma, is two years old at the start of this book and is about to start attending childcare while Emoni returns to school. In this short, tantalising glimpse the reader is introduced to some of Emoni's family, friends and teachers and told that Emoni has loved to cook since a very small child. The book is well presented with images of fruit and, so far, one recipe with maybe more to come. I'm sure this book is going to be a great, fun, upifting read which will appeal to many readers. I'm looking forward to reading more about Emoni and her family
