The cover of this book drew me in with its bright illustration and intense gaze of the pretty heroine. When I started to read I wasn’t so sure - initially I couldn’t understand where the story was set or who the characters are. But that changed a few pages in. Emoji, the lead character is still a schoolgirl but one with a two year old daughter. Like most teenagers Emoni is very sassy when with her friends but with her daughter she shows a deep level of maturity. Starting back at school in a new academic year there is a glimpse of a tutor who obviously sees the best in her. I can’t wait to read on to learn about the relationships between all characters and the troubles they may face. And to learn more about Emoni’s gift for creating magical meals. Reading and food - what’s not to love! This will also be a good book to share and discuss with my teenagers.
