I can see why Elizabeth Acevedo has won so many literary awards!
She manages in a few words to tell the reader so much about the characters Buela, Ms Fuentes, Angelica and, of course, Emoni herself.
I don't normally like books which are interspersed with recipes but in this case I can make an exception.
I love her tongue in cheek style of writing.
This book which presumably is aimed at Young Adults, has so much potential as a story about life as a teenage Puerto Rican mother managing a toddler, school and a part time job in Philadelphia.
